BREAKING BIAS FOR TEAMS

Whole team seated in rounds | 4 hours

Raise awareness of bias, remove roadblocks and build interpersonal savvy

This workshop is a vivid approach to Unconscious Bias because it reveals the bias-making-machine in our own minds. Through the lens of bias, participants up their skills in analytical thinking, diversity of thought and communication.

What happens at the workshop

Team members have discussions and do exercises based on the latest research in brain science, bias and relationships. They coach each other on a difficult interpersonal situation to apply new analytical and communication tools.

Heart

Interrupting the blame reflex and using vulnerability and empathy instead to understand what’s truly at risk for the other person and what they really want.

Head

Learning to pause the kind of thinking that runs away with assumptions and interpretations, and analyze what’s happening in their own mind.

Action

Leaving with simple steps they can do to help interactions, as well as new team norms around bias and communication.

What happens back at work

To keep the work alive, leaders get small steps they’ll do with their teams, plus a group coaching call one month after the workshop. Everyone can now challenge local and systemic bias. Participants say they have more options for working through difficult communication. The team uses tools and shared language to be real, take more responsibility for interactions, get unstuck and influence stakeholders, etc.

While this workshop doesn’t cover Native Genius, challenging bias is essential to being able to manage performance, joy and drain at work, which is taught in The Full Program.
